STU Students Excel at National Intercultural Competence Competition

On December 14, 2025, Shantou University students have delivered a strong showing at one of China's leading intercultural communication contests, claiming multiple awards at both the national and provincial levels.

The competition, officially known as the SFLEP Cup National College Students' Intercultural Competence Contest (全国高校学生跨文化能力大赛), is guided by the China Education Association for International Exchange and hosted by Shanghai International Studies University. Now in its eighth edition, it has attracted participants from over 1,050 universities across all 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities, and is recognized on China's official college student competition list. The grand finals of this year's contest concluded on December 14 at Shanghai International Studies University.

In the on-site competition, STU fielded a cross-disciplinary team that navigated multiple rounds of competition to claim second prize in the Chinese student group, along with the Excellent Case Award — a strong result reflecting both individual preparation and teamwork. The team was selected and trained under the guidance of Ms. Yang Junru from the English Language Center. With 18 years of teaching experience and a track record of leading STU students to outstanding results in national competitions, Ms. Yang brought both expertise and strategic insight to the team's preparation.

The short video competition yielded equally impressive results. Under the guidance of Ms. Zheng Xiaojie, also from the English Language Center, the entry A Hundred Flavors Vie in Shantou won the national first prize, recognized for its distinct cultural theme and innovative presentation. A second entry, A Sheet of Nostalgia, earned the national second prize.

These achievements speak to STU's broader commitment to developing students' intercultural communication skills and deepening practical teaching reform, and to the dedication of the faculty who make it possible.
