Jin (Jinhuang Zhang) holds an MA degree in Applied Linguistics from Monash University, Australia, awarded in 2018. Her research interests include Cultural Linguistics and Intercultural Communication. She completed her MA thesis entitled “Unpacking Cultural Conceptualisations of the Metaphorical Usage of Temperature Terms in Mandarin Chinese” under the supervision of Professor Farzad Sharifian, the pioneer of Cultural Linguistics. During her study in Australia, Jin worked as a mentor at Monash University, a tutor at a high school teaching English as a second language as well as an IELTS trainer.
Prior to that, Jin obtained a BA degree in Journalism from Shantou University in 2016. During her undergraduate study, Jin was awarded with ACC Australian Studies 2015-2016 Competitive Project Grant from the Australian Government. She also made a significant contribution to the report of the 2015 Nepal earthquake as a member of the 2015 STU Nepal Reporting Team and worked subsequently as a journalist at ECS Media, Nepal, where she conducted independent interviews and published articles written in English and Chinese.
As an STU alumna, Jin is very excited to come back and contribute to helping STU students enhance their English skills.
