Li (Lily) Zhang embarked on her career as an EFL teacher at Chongqing University in 1989, then joined the ELC of Shantou University in 2000. She completed part of the MA courses in Applied Linguistics and TESOL at the University of Leicester, U.K. in 2004, and worked subsequently as an interpreter for a joint-venture pharmaceutical company in Leicestershire. In 2011, she was selected to participate in a training program on Integrative Thinking under the supervision of Professor Mihnea Moldoveanu at the University of Toronto, Canada.
Lily won the Champion Coach Award in the 2013 “FLTRP Cup” English Public Speaking Contest in Beijing and the Top Best Coach Award in the Guangdong Provincial Final of the same contest. She received the Teaching Excellence Award of Shantou University in the 2009-2010 academic year.
Her research has focused on English learning and teaching (particularly in speaking and writing, developing critical thinking and critical language pedagogy in relation to ELF), and intercultural culture learning in the EFL classroom. She believes that teaching requires deep understanding that can only come when students internalize and actively apply knowledge in creative and meaningful ways.
