Patrick (Peng Zhang) graduated from Pennsylvania State University with an MA degree in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL). Before joining Shantou University, Patrick taught courses such as Composition for American Academic Communication, Building Conversational Proficiency, TOEFL Listening, and AP US History in the US and in China.

During his graduate school years, Patrick was an active contributing member of the Multilingual Writing and Research Group (MWRG), a study and research group aimed at promoting individual and collaborative research agendas focusing on multilingual writing. He also held workshops for Penn State faculty and students on “Providing Effective Feedback for ESL Writers” at Schreyer Institute. His research interest includes Sociocultural Theory and Corpus Analysis.

Patrick believes that students learn a language best when they have many DIFFERENT opportunities to practice that language, and building mutual trust between students and teachers is the key to a successful and efficient class.

When not teaching, Patrick gets his green thumbs back and enjoys the companion of his dog, Gûngûn.
