Dr. Zhang Xin joined the English Language Center at Shantou University in 2014. She earned her Doctorate in Applied Language Sciences from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in July 2024. With extensive teaching experience, Dr. Zhang has delivered a variety of English courses to non-English major students and taught English composition to English major students. Her dedication to teaching excellence has been recognized through numerous awards, including the Second Prize in the National Micro-Teaching Competition. She also spearheaded the development of a university-level first-class course that employed a blended learning model, showcasing her innovative approach to education.
In line with Shantou University’s commitment to professional development and academic excellence, Dr. Zhang has actively participated in professional training workshops on diverse topics. These include EAP (English for Academic Purposes) teacher training at the University of Reading, IELTS teacher training at Macau Polytechnic University, and workshops on utilizing generative AI in feedback practices hosted by Macau Polytechnic University and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, among others.
Dr. Zhang has contributed significantly to the academic and extracurricular activities at Shantou University. She has served in various roles, such as Co-Coordinator of the Centre for Independent Language Learning (CILL), Member of the Organizing Committee for the English Festival, Consultant for the “How Do I Improve My English” (HDIIME) program, Chinese Coach, Editor of Shantou Beat, and Activity Leader for the “Small Talk” program. She has also conducted workshops on topics such as vocabulary building, study skills, and academic writing. Furthermore, Dr. Zhang has guided numerous students to achieve outstanding results in provincial writing competitions.
Beyond teaching and service, Dr. Zhang is an active researcher. She has delivered over 15 academic presentations at international conferences, focusing on topics such as assessment, writing feedback, cognitive metaphor, and language learning. Her work reflects her passion for advancing the field of applied linguistics and contributing to academic discourse on a global scale.
