For the first half of his life, Scott lived and worked in various cities around the US. After graduating from college, he hitchhiked across America and, later, traveled Europe by train, bus and boat for a year. For the twenty years before arriving in Shantou, he lived in Kyoto, Japan, where he taught English to students ranging in age from 1 to 90, studied Japanese and, while attending Japanese language school, met his wife.
Scott arrived at STU in 2010 and, since then, has taught in the English Through Art program, ELC’s special suite of courses for the art and design students of CKAD. During the same period, he has been the director of ELC’s Center for Independent Language Learning (CILL). The two positions have allowed him to pursue and apply a range of personal interests: interior, graphic, webpage and curriculum design; drawing and painting; cartooning and illustrating; writing prose and dialogue, woodworking and cabinetmaking and a variety of other arts and crafts.
