Susan ( LIU Xiujun ) Lecturer
Susan’s research and teaching experiences are as extensive as her learning experiences. Her recent five-year research experiences include studying English language learners and struggling readers in US K-12 schools, and presenting at US national and regional literacy conferences. In the United States, she was a certified adult literacy instructor teaching immigrants literacy skills, an ESL instructor teaching international students, and a Mandarin Chinese teacher teaching American students in high schools. In China, as a seasoned teacher, her experiences in teaching English as a foreign language to students at the tertiary level has spanned more than two decades in three universities. Susan is a strong believer in life-long learning and whole-person education. As one Chinese saying goes: 授人以渔而非鱼(teaching people how to fish instead of giving them fish), for her, teaching in globalized economy means guiding and facilitating students in becoming a life-long learner and global citizen by utilizing the funds of knowledge they have brought into new learning.
In her spare time, Susan likes workouts including jogging, biking, hiking, and playing Taichi. She loves cooking hot and spicy food, and enjoys gardening for the beauty of flowers, and supplies for kitchen.
