The English Language Center at Shantou University in China invites applications for positions as international EFL instructors. Accepted applications will be employed for the academic year, beginning in August.

 


The ELC provides English instruction to 7000 Shantou University students every year. The ELC is dedicated to excellence in teaching and resources, in order to create a supportive language learning environment in which students can develop their communicative competence and integrative thinking strategies. The program stresses the importance of both curricular and co-curricular activities, creating a vibrant and creative intellectual community.

 

 

  • Responsibilities


The candidate’s primary responsibility is to teach four classes of English (16 hours) per week to undergraduate students at             different English proficiency levels. Candidates are also expected to coordinate co-curricular activities such as English Corner,       English Lounge, The Shantou Beat, Conversation Series, Faculty Lecture Series, and the English Festival.

 

 

  • Salary and Benefits


 All positions provide competitive salaries, determined according to the appointee's qualifications and experience. Additional          benefits include health insurance, vacation allowances, and Chinese holidays. For international candidates, the ELC provide one  round-trip ticket from the candidate’s residency to Shantou, paid vacations, subsidized accommodation, and medical benefits.

 

 

  • Qualifications


International candidates should possess a relevant master degree or postgraduate qualification (MA/MEd in TESOL, ESL, EFL,     Applied Linguistics or a related field, or TESOL certificate or equivalent) and have at least 2 years' teaching experience, ideally in the tertiary sector. Preference will be given to candidates with a proven record or strong interest in scholarship and classroom       research and familiarity with the use of technology in the ESL/EFL classroom. Ph.D. holders are encouraged to apply and negotiate terms of employment.
